Kogi State Governor Ododo Raises Minimum Wage to N72,500, Workers Celebrate Bold Move

In a landmark decision, Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has approved a significant increase in the minimum wage for workers in the state, setting it at N72,500. The move comes after thorough deliberations between the government and union representatives, ensuring that the new wage would not only benefit the workers but also support the state’s overall welfare.

Governor Ododo, himself a former labor leader and civil servant, emphasized the importance of not forgetting his roots and the struggles faced by state workers. He expressed his commitment to serving the people and utilizing state resources to provide relief to the workforce. The governor’s decision, effective immediately, also includes the suspension of withholding tax from civil servants’ salaries for a year.

Praising the collaborative efforts between the government and labor leaders, Governor Ododo emphasized that the minimum wage adjustment was not just a gesture but a rightful entitlement of the workers. He reiterated his dedication to prioritizing the welfare of state employees and urged them to continue their contributions to the state’s development.

The Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, Mr. Elijah Evinemi, lauded the governor for spearheading the initiative and ensuring a swift resolution that would bring joy to workers. Comrade Gabriel Amari, State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, echoed similar sentiments, commending Governor Ododo for his inclusive approach to governance.

With Kogi State aligning with the federal directive on minimum wage and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s support, Governor Ododo emphasized the state’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged continued cooperation with the president’s agenda.

As workers celebrate this momentous decision, the impact of the increased minimum wage stands as a testament to Governor Ododo’s unwavering support for the state’s workforce and his dedication to advancing the well-being of all residents.
