Activist Miliki Abdul has expressed worries over the recent closure of various Zango markets in Ijumu and Kabba-Bunu Local Government Areas in Kogi State. Abdul raised concerns about the potential danger to the communities as this move could lead to unchecked attacks on citizens by the Fulani population that operates these markets.

While acknowledging the decision to close down the markets as a security measure, Abdul emphasized the need for additional measures to prevent any backlash from the Fulani community. He called upon Traditional rulers and the local government administration in Mopamuro, Ijumu, and Kabba-Bunu to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of innocent citizens in the area.

“My worries about the closing of these markets, which is commendable, is the potential for a split-over. We therefore appeal to both Traditional rulers and the local government Administration in Mopamuro, Ijumu, and Kabba Bunu, to put measures in place to check these Fulani people around Iluagba, OdoApe, and other flashpoints around Okun land to avert an attack on the innocent citizens,” Abdul stated.

The activist’s concerns highlight the importance of careful planning and coordination to address potential security threats while ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the affected areas.
