2023 Egga Day holds September 2 – Central Planning Committee
As part of efforts to promote their culture, love, and unity, as well as to give a boost to the socio-economic development of their community, the people of Egbeda-Egga, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, have concluded arrangements to hold the 2023 Egga Day Celebration.
According to the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Comrade Prince Mike Olanrewaju, the 2023 Egga Day Celebration is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 2nd September 2023 at the Town Hall, Egbeda-Egga by 10:00am. The event is aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people of Egbeda-Egga, as well as raise minimum of N200 million for community development projects like solar streetlights, upgrading of the community health centre, construction of internal roads and improvement of facilities at the Government Special Science School (old Community Secondary School), Egbeda-Egga.
The big cultural event, during which displays like Egun Olomo (Bereke), Ede (Pokiri Pelebe), Igbafun (traditional wedding display), Sakara, Kokomo, Ogbele, etc, will attract sons, daughters, in-laws, and friends of the community from all walks of life.
While Music Maestro, Emma Toba Ajibola, aka Omo-Okun alongside other music stars from the community like Alayo and Deji Success will be on the Band Stand, various branches of Egbeda-Egga Development Union (EDU) will be adding glitz and glamour to the event through unique dance and carnival displays.
Some dignitaries expected to grace the 2023 Egga Day Celebration are the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello, who is the Special Guest of Honour; the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government, Hon. (Dr) Taufiq A. Isa, is the Chief Host; former Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Abiodun Ojo, who is a distinguished son of the community, is Co-Host. Royal Fathers of the Day include HRM, Oba Olusegun Williams Ayeni (JP), Obadofin I, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and Chairman, Ijumu Traditional Council; HRM, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman Okun Traditional Council; the Regent of Egbeda-Egga, Chief Ajibola Obademi, the Olojo of Egbeda-Egga, among others.
In his pre-event briefing, the National President, Egbeda-Egga Development Union (EDU), Dr Emmanuel Otitolaiye, emphasised that this year’s event is unique as it is the first to be observed in five years since the last was held in June 2018. Therefore, all sons and daughters of the community, home and in the Diaspora, are fully prepared to participate in the big cultural event.
