The Commissioner For Education, Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones has described the victory recorded by the Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba in this year’s Higher Institutions Football League as Gov. Yahaya Bello‘s avowed commitment to building all round students and graduates from the state‘s tertiary institutions.
Hon. Jones made the disclosure shortly after PAAU Anyigba defeated Federal University Oye, Ekiti State by three goals to one.
The PAAU team came from a one goal down to defeat there opponents, a feat the Commissioner described as unprecedented, disclosed that this is the first time a State University would emerge as champion in the four year old tournament.
PAAU Anyigba finished first, while Federal University Oye, Ekiti, University of Nigeria Nsuka and University of Ilorin, finished second, third and fourth respectively.
The Commissioner disclosed that PAAU students who started the tournament have graduated leaving behind new students to finish the tournament and to emerge as champion, but explained that other institutions because of the ASUU strike played the tournament with there old students, yet lost to the PAAU Anyigba Team.
The feat and successes recorded by PAAU Anyigba, Hon. Jones explained could not have been made possible without the support of Gov. Yahaya Bello, described the present administration’s love for the education sector as unprecedented in the state‘s history.
The Commissioner for Education disclosed that under Gov. Bello’s administration, PAAU Anyigba aside emerging as champion in the football tournament, is ranked high in the country in quality learning and improved infrastructure.
Hon. Jones thanked Gov. Bello for all the support which made himself, the Vice Chancellor of PAAU, Mrs. Marietu Tenuche, the DVC Administration, DVC Academic to attend the final match played Yaba Sports Complex in Lagos State
