The Caretaker Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alh. Haruna Ibrahim on Monday presented appointment letters to about 50 Local Hunters recently appointed as part of effort to ensure effective policing at the grassroots level.
Alh. Haruna also reiterated that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will not negotiate with criminals but take the fight to their enclaves.
Speaking during the presentation of the letters, the Caretaker Chairman hailed Governor Ododo for the quick rescue of some students of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday last Week.
Alhaji Haruna pointed out that the Governor had been prepared for Governance by former Governor Yahaya Bello, hence the immediate rescue of the CUSTECH Students.
“We therefore thank the Governor who used the last two days to mobilize security agencies that led to the release of the abducted students. This is heartwarming and a thing of joy to all of us” said the chairman.
According to him, Governor Ododo will not compromise the security of lives and property of the people of Kogi State, urging the Newly recruited Hunters to be dutiful to the task of policing the Local Government.
Speaking on adoption of Local Hunters, the Caretaker Chairman said the present administration embraced the service of Local Hunters to make Kogi forests, a “no go area” for criminals in the state.
“I want to sincerely thank His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State for the good work you are doing. Security is improving and so is the State Economy. It is clear that the Governor is addressing insecurity.” the caretaker Chairman said.
The caretaker Chairman charged the Hunter to work with Traditional Leaders and other Security Agencies in their respective communities to promote synergy and harmonious coexistence.
The SSA Security to the Chairman, Hon Adeyemi Emmanuel and the SSA on Vigilante, Chief Jethro Babatola, in their separate remarks, thanked the Governor for the privileged given to the hunters in order to show case their capacities in protecting lives and properties.
They promised to always guide their activities in line with international best practices.
