A pressure group, the Northern Progressive Coalition Movement (NPCM) has warned the immediate past governor of Kano state and National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to keep away from Kano State Election Tribunal in order not to set the state on fire. The group said the former governor should desist from acts that would truncate the wishes of Kanawa as expressed in the last rounds of elections.

This is coming just as the NPCM called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call Ganduje whom it accused of using his name to subvert the people’s will to order, saying failure to act would be catastrophic as it is capable of throwing the country into chaos.

These are contained in a statement issued by the Coordinator of NPCM, Mallam Isa Usman Misau in Kaduna on Wednesday wherein he vowed that the people of the state will do all within the law to resist efforts to return defeated candidates who are members of the APC through the back door.

“For some time, we have become so suspicious of the former governor and his agents. In recent times, the rumour mill has been agog to suggest that they have been making sinister moves to compromise members of the various election petition tribunals to return their members who have been widely rejected by the people of Kano during the last election.

“Our fears were recently confirmed by the Chairman of the Kano State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Flora Azinge who few days ago raised the alarm to suggest that the APC has been trying to compromise members of the various tribunal through some top legal practitioners who are alleged to be making moves to induce them (tribunal members),” Misau said.

The group warned the president to toe the path of honoured followed by some of his predecessors in office who never pander to wishes of chieftains of their various parties to subvert the will of the people as expressed at the polling booths.

“Our group is calling on President Tinubu to remain a statesman that he is by shunning all the approaches being made to him by Ganduje and his cohorts. They don’t mean well for him but they are out to tarnish his image by their wanton recourse to dropping his name at every turn in their desire to return to power via the back door.

“During Obasanjo era, Kano and Lagos were under the opposition, Obasanjo or Kwankwaso never contemplate of using brute force to subvert the people’s will in Kano and coincidentally, the present president was the opposition governor in Lagos.

“Both late Yar’dua and Pres. Jonathan toed the line of honour by allowing the oppositions parties to control these states, so the Pres. Tinubu most maintain the same line.

“The whole world is aware that the people of Kano State voted en masse for candidates of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). For members of the APC to be dropping his name and trying to induce or bribe members of the various elections petitions tribunals is demeaning to the personality of the president.

If they want to repeat what happened in 2019, then, they must be making the greatest mistake. Pres. Tinubu should not add more problems to the already fragile situation in the country especially in the northern part of the country”, the group wrote
