The wife of the Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Oluwadare Grace,
on Monday called for more concerted efforts to amplify girls’ voices, towards ensuring their protection, respect, and empowerment. She called on women to speak out against gender-based violence and trafficking.
Grace disclosed this while addressing women from the 5 local government councils of Okun Extraction in Kogi West at the International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women with the theme, “We Stand Against Gender Based Violence Every Woman Deserves A Future”, which was held at the Johnny’s Event Centre, Kabba.
The First Lady said it is imperative to support the cause of the women to secure her future, in line with this year’s theme saying that the female gender should not be deprived of access to education, health care, and protection against violence.
Hon (Mrs.) Oluwadare Grace encouraged Nigerian women in positions of authority to champion and protect the rights and privileges of women in the country.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Pastor (Dr.) Folashade Arike Ayoade, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring every woman is valued, respected, and given the opportunities they deserve.
She encouraged the women to hold on to their dreams saying that their dreams are their power.
Dr Folashade urged them not to allow their background to be a barrier to achieving success urging them to harness their potential and ability to drive change, innovate, lead, and inspire others positively in life.
Conclusively, the first lady, Hon (Mrs.) Oluwadare Grace has called for urgent action to combat gender-based violence as she joined the global observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
“Let us work together to ensure a safer society where everyone, regardless of gender, can live without fear of violence,” she said.
