The Honourable Minister of state for health and social welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has commended the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences (FUAHS) Enugu, Prof. John Emaimo, for his diligence and dedication in propelling the institution to its current state. The minister made this commendation during a visit by the university’s management team to his office in Abuja.

Worthy of note is a groundbreaking move showcasing his commitment to national unity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in approving the establishment of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences in Enugu, the first tertiary health and educational institution in the region. This move comes despite the fact that the Eastern region did not vote for him in the recent election, demonstrating Tinubu’s detribalised approach to governance and his dedication to improving healthcare and education infrastructure across the country.

This historic decision underscores Tinubu’s belief in the importance of investing in all parts and regions of Nigeria, regardless of political affiliations or voting patterns. The establishment of the University of Allied Health Sciences in Enugu is not only a significant milestone for the Eastern region but also a testament to Tinubu’s vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen has access to quality education and healthcare services.

Dr. Alausa praised Prof. Emaimo for his efforts in transforming the institution from a college of dental technology and therapy to a degree awarding university approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He urged the Vice Chancellor to continue expanding the scope of academic programs, with a particular focus on allied health programs to address Nigeria’s need for more manpower in the sector.

The minister assured Prof. Emaimo of the ministry’s full support in realizing President Tinubu’s vision for the university.

The minister also noted the high level of discipline observed at the university, particularly in the students’ adherence to departmental uniforms. He emphasized that this discipline would instill a sense of order and professionalism among the student body.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom mni, congratulated Prof. Emaimo and the entire university community for the level of infrastructure development achieved under his leadership. She lauded the Vice Chancellor’s determination for success, describing it as a positive sign for the health sector’s future.

In his response, Prof. Emaimo expressed gratitude for the minister’s commendation and reassured him that FUAHS Enugu was on track to commence operations by September for the upcoming academic session. He pledged to uphold the standards of excellence set by the ministry and to prioritize allied health programs in the university’s curriculum.

The visit to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare was part of the university’s efforts to present a brief of the transition committee and submit the foundational documents required to kickstart operations. Prof. Emaimo and his management team received positive feedback and encouragement from the ministry officials, affirming their commitment to supporting the growth and development of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences Enugu.

With the support of the federal government and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, FUAHS Enugu is poised to become a leading institution in allied health education and research, contributing to the improvement of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The commendation from the minister serves as a testament to the university’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of health sciences.
