The Honourable Commissioner for Education in Kogi State, Hon Wemi Jones FCIB, recently played host to Prof. Saulp Davut, the trustee coordinator of International University, Kyrenia, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, along with a high powered delegation led by Mr. Afolabi Joseph Raji, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize with the ministry of education and discuss potential partnerships in developing education and providing scholarships to Kogi State students.
During the meeting, Hon Wemi Jones FCIB expressed the state’s commitment to further advancing education under the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo. He highlighted the numerous educational institutions in the state, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, as well as a large number of secondary schools. Education is a top priority for the state government, and significant investments are being made in the sector to ensure the future success of Kogi State students.
The delegation from International University in Northern Cyprus shared details about their institution, which is a leading provider of education in their region. They expressed their willingness to support the state government’s efforts in improving the education system in Kogi State, including providing scholarships to deserving students.
Despite the small size of Northern Cyprus, Prof. Saulp Davut mentioned that there are over 26 universities in the region, showcasing the potential for collaboration and exchange of knowledge between the two regions. The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead in strengthening the education sector in Kogi State.
