A key aspirant and contender for the PDP ticket for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency in the last election, Engr. Michael Idowu Obanewo has stated categorically that Politics, like they say, is all about interests; personal interest first, depending on the individual’s interpretation, and then, the other interests.
“Interest of the people” falls in the category of “other interests,” and it is absolutely optional, and ranks last, if at all.
So, do not let anyone deceive you into believing that “politics is all about the interests of the people.” Do not get bamboozled with that line, and do not be emotional about whoever your candidate is. Emotions do not exist in political calculations! The actors don’t even know you exist, and yet you’re there crying more than the bereaved.
Politics is no longer an instrument to change the lives of the downtrodden. It is neither about matters of development nor an avenue to make society a better place.
It is sad, right? Yes, it is! But we’ve got to keep playing along until we get it right.
