The Okun Development Association (ODA) held an executive meeting on July 3, 2024, to discuss progress and future plans for the community
The meeting, attended by both physical and online participants, was chaired by the President General, Ambassador Akenson Rotimi, who acknowledged the dedication of the National Executive Council (NEC) since its inauguration.
Speaking at the meeting, the President General provided an overview of NEC’s achievements despite challenges, highlighting efforts to reconcile with the Kabba Development Union (KDU), regularize the ODA account, engage Okun representatives at the National Assembly, and establish committees to tackle socio-economic and security concerns.
NEC members praised Ambassador Rotimi’s leadership and urged continued progress.
Addressing some concerns, the National Secretary reported initial hurdles faced by the association, such as the absence of an office in Kabba, paucity of funds, an inactive bank account, and inadequate documentation but noted that some of the issues had been resolved.
It was also disclosed at the meeting that the National Secretary, who also served as the Secretary of the Okun Security Network, had held meetings with retired military generals to bolster security efforts in the region.
During the meeting, reports from various committees indicated steady advancements. The committee on constitution review and the Economy committee are set to commence their assignments, while the ODA reform committee, . , is nearing completion of its report.
The Treasurer outlined fundraising initiatives, including compiling a list of potential donors by local government areas.
In his remarks, Barrister Femi Oloruntoba, ODA Secretary General, affirmed the NEC’s commitment to advancing the interests of the Okun Nation.
The meeting concluded with several resolutions, recognizing the NEC’s achievements, emphasizing the importance of committee work, and appealing for continued support from the Okun community to drive socio-economic progress and ensure security.
