On February 12, 2025, a groundbreaking meeting between The Kogi State Commodity Exchange, Export Promotion and Market Development Agency (KOSCEPA) and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kogi State Chapter, set the stage for a new era of agricultural progress in the region.

Director General of KOSCEPA, Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye, welcomed a diverse group of stakeholders to the meeting in Lokoja, highlighting the importance of enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices. Government officials, agricultural experts, and local farmers gathered to discuss key strategies, including the implementation of modern agricultural techniques, improving access to quality seeds and fertilizers, and establishing market linkages to boost farmers’ income.

A major announcement at the meeting was the introduction of new empowerment programs by KOSCEPA, aimed at providing financial assistance and training for smallholder farmers. The agency also emphasized its dedication to supporting women and youth in agriculture, recognizing their vital role in the sector’s growth.

Representatives from AFAN shared valuable insights on the challenges facing farmers, emphasizing issues such as climate change and inadequate infrastructure. They called for increased government intervention and partnerships with private entities to address these pressing concerns.

To ensure the success of the initiatives discussed, a joint task force was agreed upon to monitor progress and facilitate continued dialogue between KOSCEPA and AFAN. The participants left the meeting with renewed hope and optimism, believing that the collaborative efforts would pave the way for a sustainable and prosperous future for farming communities in Kogi State.
